Pelican Black Enamel

Pelican in Its Piety

In medieval lore, the pelican was thought to feed its young with its own blood, signifying the ultimate in self-sacrifice. This rendition uses Islamic themes in the surrounding border. This two-inch copper oval uses transparents and opalescent white. The drops of blood stand out like jewels in gold-foiled red enamel domed above the silver wires.
